The Electromagnetism Project

May 2nd, 2010 No comments

I thought it would be a good idea to figure out how all this stuff works. I’ve always been pretty handy with mechanical stuff. I even worked as a welder for a couple of years. So you’d think I would know all about electricity, and power generation.

And I do know a little. But when I started looking into this I realized I didn’t know near as much as I thought I did.

One of the things my old daddy told me was if you wanted to really understand anything you should try to think it through as if you were explaining it to a kid. He asked me to tell him how to build a wall.

I said “Well, you start with a couple of 2×4′s, get some nails, and a hammer…”

He interrupted me “What’s a 2×4, what’s a nail, what’s a hammer?”

That lesson really stuck with me.

With that in mind, I found this website that tells you how to actually build a generator. It’s just science project stuff, but you will learn and understand more just by reading this. But what I’d really like to see is if some of you would actually do this and send us photos and maybe even video of your experiment.

Have fun with this electromagnetism project.
